Help end cosmetics testing on animals!

Name of Bill: Prohibits Sale of Cosmetic Products That Have Been Tested on Animals

Bill Number: S1726

RabbitNew Jersey currently has a ban on the use of animals for cosmetics testing when there is an appropriate alternative test method available. To strengthen this prohibition, the New Jersey Senate is now considering a bill that would ban the sale of all animal-tested cosmetics.

This legislation would prohibit the sale of cosmetics that were developed or manufactured using animal tests on or after January 1, 2021, with certain exceptions. This ban would apply to the sale of animal-tested cosmetics regardless of where those cosmetics were manufactured.

Banning the sale of animal-tested cosmetics is a big step towards reducing the suffering of animals in laboratories because the effect expands well beyond New Jersey. As more states take up these types of laws, manufacturers around the country will be forced to reexamine their animal testing practices if they want to stay relevant in the marketplace.

Please support S1726 to end the sale of cosmetics tested on animals

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to ask that you vote in favor of S1726 to end the sale of cosmetics that are developed using animal testing. Safe and reliable non-animal safety tests have existed for years, and hundreds of brands already sell cosmetics that are cruelty free.

New Jersey set a great precedent with its ban on the use of animals for cosmetics safety testing. The proposed sales ban is a logical extension of this existing law, which will impact only those few companies that still rely on outdated, and often inaccurate, animal tests to determine the safety of their products. Products produced in countries where animals are still required to be used for safety testing are exempted from the sales ban.

Banning the sale of animal-tested products is important because it effects not only the state of New Jersey, but also the entire industry and their decisions on manufacturing and development using cruel and unnecessary animal testing.

There is no justification for the continued reliance on cruel animal tests to ensure the safety of cosmetics. Please vote in favor of S1726 and ensure that New Jersey continues to lead the fight in the global movement toward cruelty-free cosmetics.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
