Name: Ban on the Sale of Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Tested on Animals
Bill Number: A 496/S 4250
New York was one of the first states to ban the use of
animals for testing the safety of cosmetics. Last year, new legislation was
introduced to ban the sale of cosmetics that were tested
on animals. As the legislative session reopens in 2020, A 496 and S 4250 will
again be under consideration. While the Assembly bill would ban the sale of all

Support a ban on the sale of animal-tested cosmetics
Dear [Decision Maker],
I am writing to ask your support for A 496/S 4250, legislation which would end the sale, in the state of New York, of cosmetics that are tested on animals. Safe and reliable non-animal safety tests have existed for years, and hundreds of brands currently sell cosmetics that are cruelty free.New York is already leading the way with its ban on the use of animals for cosmetics safety testing. The proposed sales ban is a logical extension of this existing law, which will impact only those few companies that still rely on outmoded animal tests to determine the safety of their products. The European Union has adopted progressive test methods and a humane standard for testing cosmetics for safety, and many individual countries have also adopted non-animal-based testing for cosmetics safety. Since 2018, California, Illinois and Nevada have also passed laws banning the sale of cosmetics tested for safety on animals. Let New York continue to lead the way in the global movement toward cruelty-free cosmetics. Thank you for your support of this important bill.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
